Residents of the newly drawn 16th Assembly District have a long history of electing Republicans, including former Legislators Guy Houston, Lynne Leach, Richard Rainey and Bill Baker.

Many of the voters in the district are “swing” voters, which means they will vote for the best possible candidate regardless of party affiliation. These East Bay ‘swing’ voters want jobs and economic growth, along with transportation infrastructure, good schools, and efficient, effective government.

As businesses leave our State in record numbers, Joan Buchanan refuses to break ranks with the Assembly’s liberal leadership. Instead, she joined them in support of more taxes, more regulations, and more job losses.

› Joan voted for billions in tax increases. Thanks to her California now has one of the Nation’s highest tax rates and highest unemployment rates.

› Joan supported creation of hundreds of new regulations on businesses, including more impediments to construction, hiring, manufacturing, and healthcare. California needs more jobs, not taxes and regulations. She just doesn’t get it.

› Joan Buchanan earned an “F” grade from the California Chamber of Commerce for her job-killer votes.

› Like most Democrats, Joan Buchanan received tens of thousands of dollars from public employee labor unions – no wonder she has refused to support needed public pension reform. Let’s be clear, she never will. Her union bosses won’t let her.

› Joan Buchanan and her liberal colleagues cut public safety funding rather than cut other ‘pet projects.’ The result was a massive and dangerous early-release program for criminals.
